The End

Image
Hello all. I apologize for the long hiatus. While I have had ideas for posts, none of them gelled in my mind long enough to for me to write about them. The End of the World? Philosophically and technically, the world we know changes from moment to moment, day to day, year to year, etc. So, the world we knew yesterday is never to be seen again. Thanks to REM, we can look at the end satirically. So, here we are more than a couple months after President Obama was re-elected to the highest office in the land. There seemed to be literally millions of people out there who believed the world, or at least the USA, would end if Obama won. Guess what - we are all still here, at least most of us. I will get to that later. Yes, the economy is still getting better, admittedly slowly. The unemployment rate nationwide is at 7.8%. That is down nearly 3 points since it's highest position. And, the stock market is moving up steadily. The DOW was at ~6,600 back in 2009 and has doubled si...

Obama Gets Four More Years

Obama Wins! Yes, I am happy. Also, I am hoping the vitriol, hatred, arrogance, and partisanship go by the wayside. But no, I don't think it will.

My Own Mind Sorry about the football metaphor. I am Bronco fan after all. My Dad was also a Bronco fan. He was one of the first press people for the old Denver Bears when he worked for Air Force Radio and Television. Speaking of my Dad, he was a Republican. I don't think he would have identified himself with the party of today, let alone the Tea Party sect. A friend of mine was accused me of parroting anything my Dad said. He intimated I could not think for myself. Well guess what, I formulated my own opinions despite what my Dad said or did. I once even had a short argument with him about Bill Clinton. He was not a fan.  Those who greatly influenced my outlook include Paul Tedrow, history teacher extraordinaire;  Mr. Rosburg, a Shakespeare aficionado; Bill Hart, a state senator and social studies teacher; Mrs. Estes, a civics teacher at Russell Junior High; Mr. Blair, political science professor at Las Positas College; Jon Stewart, of Comedy Central; and of co...

Chuck Lorre - Genius

For all those fans of Two and Half Men or Big Bang Theory or Dharma & Greg, you might have noticed the vanity cards at the end of the episodes. They are written by Chuck Lorre. He's the guy who got into an argument with Charlie Sheen last year. He is also the producer and the main writer of those TV shows. His vanity cards are perfect little gems of creativity and writing. They are only on screen for a moment so as to not offend and make people like me want to read them. Some of them can be controversial. Here is a link to his latest creation. http://www.chucklorre.com/index.php?p=397c You also might look through some of his others. They are great.

The Power of One

Hope and Change Back in 2008, millions of people supported Barack Obama because they believed he could CHANGE Washington. Some also thought he could solve numerous problems - even Messiah-like.  Despite what some Liberals and Democrats, or even some Tea Party types, might think, President's don't have kingly powers. One man cannot radically change this country no matter how much some people want or some may think he can. We do have three branches of government. There are checks and balances between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches. The first article of the Constitution says "ALL legislative powers...shall be vested in a Congress."  The second article vests "the executive power...in a President."  The third article places the "judicial power of the United States in one Supreme Court" and "in such inferior Courts as the Congress...may establish." We do not have a dictatorship, monarchy, or aristocracy. We have a Republi...
